Pinoski captures Stock/Super Stock Title at Sacramento National Open

Cool, dry weather made for record-setting performances in the Stock/Super Stock classes at the annual NHRA National Open at Sacramento Raceway Park. NHRA national records were set by Steve Wann (A/SA), Jerry Mendes (SS/EA), and Steve Valkanoff (R/SA). Rich Pinoski of Placerville, Calif., drove his ’67 Chevy Nova to a final round win over Larry Gilley’s ’69 Dodge Dart for the class title.   Jerry Stein and Nanette Stein were semifinalists.

Shawn Steele of Tracy, Calif., was the winner of Top Comp (Top Dragster/Top Sportsman) when he drove his dragster to a final round win over the Top Sportsman Pontiac of Ted Kellner of San Jose, Calif. Top qualifier Melissa Fedrick lost in the semifinal to Steele.

Charlie Waggoner of Los Angeles won the Super Comp title for the second time at Sacramento, also winning in 2013, as he beat Greg Taylor in the final round. Nick Saetes lost to Taylor in the semifinals. Lon Wilburn of San Bruno drove his ’76 Monza to the winner’s circle in Super Gas for the second straight year, beating Shawn Steele in the final. Marko Perivolaris and Jim Finn were semifinalists. In Super Street, Joe Greco added another Sacramento National Open “Wally” to his collection when he beat Steve Wellman in the final round. David Butler and Eric Reyes were semifinalists.

Sabrina Capps won the A/Gas class eliminator for the second consecutive year, this time beating Ray Padgett’s ’63 Corvette in the final round. Both drivers recorded identical 7.628 times, with the win going to Capps via her .011 reaction time. Other race Gas class results included Lee Roberts over Chris Borges (B/Gas), Chris Rea defeated Mike Gillespie (C/Gas), Dave Sullivan got by Sal DeRenzi (D/Gas), and Dennis Paz beat Jamie Harrison (E/Gas).

Highlights of the Junior Drag Racing League action included Jacelyn Gonzaga winning both days of the doubleheader event. The Porter Ranch, Calif., racer beat Reese Poe in the Saturday night 6-9-year old final, and stopped Jake Hodges in the final on Sunday. Hannah Cook of Novato, Calif., also went to two finals, stopping Las Vegas racer Brianna Wiens for the 15-17-year old class win on Sunday, but lost to Cade Poe in the Saturday night final.

Other Saturday night JDRL finals included: Morgan Clinton defeated Cy Mitchell, 10-12-year old; Taylor Taylor defeated Mav Molloy, 13-14-year old; and AJ Thomas defeated Dylan Oliveira, Junior Comp. Sunday finalists included Drake Padgett defeating Jessica Boardman, 10-12-year old; Braiden Chesleigh stopped DeAndre Fitzgerald, 13-14- year old; and Damon Bustamante defeated Dylan Oliveira, Jr Comp.


Bracket racing results included wins by Justin Morgan (Super Pro), Jeff LaSalle (Pro ET), Bobby Grabrian (Sportsman ET), and Mia Nasca (Motorcycle ET).

EVERY TICKET IS A PIT PASS. If you would like to park and tailgate on Spectator side, just enter thru the main gate and proceed to spectator side.  Gate 3 will not be open.

TICKET PRICES:   Friday 3-Day: $50 Children ages 6-11: $10, Saturday 2-Day: $35, Saturday ONLY: $20, Sunday: $20
OUTSIDE FOOD & BEVERAGE: No glass bottles or alcohol allowed. Food Concessions open all three days.
OVER NITE CAMPING:  $40. Lights, generators and noise to cease at 11:00 PM each nite.  Hook ups, water or electrical are not available.


RACER-CREW INFORMATION FOR Thursday, FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY


CREW ADMISSION: Thursday-Friday: $55 Saturday: $45 Sunday: $25
ENTRY FEES:  NHRA Racers:  $165, Jr Dragster Racers: $150, Pro Gas Racers (Fri/Sat): $150, Bracket Racers (Sat/Sun): $70, Test and Tune: $50 (You must have a weekend wristband or weekend race package to run test and tune). Racer packages include driver wristband and tow vehicle parking pass.
RACER PARKING: Additional RV parking is $40 per RV or camp trailer.  Additional Pit Parking admission for passenger cars:  $20.  Front lot parking:  Free.
PIT SPECTATOR PARKING:
Front lot parking is free. Pit Area parking is limited for a $20 charge per passenger vehicle.
PIT SPECTATOR SEATING: 
Grandstand seating is provided.  Bring Seat Cushions and umbrella.
INSIDE FOOD & BEVERAGE:
  Restaurant certified food concessions vendor open all 3 days.
OVER NITE CAMPING:  Allowed at no additional charge.  All racers and their crew members must purchase a multi-day pass and parking pass in order to stay in the pits over nite.  All lights, generators and noise to cease one hour after last run. Hook ups, water or electrical are not provided.
RACING FUEL: Not sold at track.
CHILDREN:  Children under the age of 14 are not permitted in the restricted areas, with the exception of remaining in the enclosed cab of the tow vehicle, with an adult, while in the restricted areas.
STARTING LINE:  No more than 4 crew members are allowed on the starting line at any one time. Non-essential crew members must remain in the tow vehicle or behind the yellow lines.  All crew must exit starting line immediately after their driver’s run.
TOW VEHICLES:  All tow vehicles must stop prior to the water box area.  Do Not Park in front of spectators standing in front of the tower. SMOKING: Absolutely no smoking allowed in the staging lanes or starting line areas.  Section 118885 of the California Health and Safety Code prohibit smoking of tobacco in public places where a gathering is in progress.
PETS:  It is best to leave your pet at home due to the loud noises drag racing creates.  However, dogs weighing less than 20 lbs are permitted at Sacramento Raceway and must be leashed at all times.  Naturally aggressive dogs (pit bulls, rottweilers, German Shepard, etc.) must wear a muzzle at all times.  This is to protect you and other patrons in the event your pet has a bad reaction to their surroundings and the noise. All pet waste must be removed immediately or you and your pet will be asked to leave.
